Peso notches third consecutive day of gains

Optimism is strong for the new policies of President Enrique Pena Nieto, who signed on with a pact to develop national growth with three of the country's top political parties on his second day in office. That signals he is serious about encouraging growth as a main part of his agenda.
Approximately 80 Democratic and Republican leaders in the U.S., a top trade and commerce partner with Mexico, signed a letter stating the imperative of looking into all options to cut through an impasse in order to resolve the dispute regarding the fiscal cliff.
"Positive sentiment about eventual agreements regarding the fiscal issues in the U.S." is helping the increase in value of the peso, economist Rafael Camarena with Grupo Financiero Santander Mexico told Bloomberg on Thursday.
The monetary unit closed Wednesday's trade session at its top value since late October as a consequence of hopes that China will implement stimulus measures, The Wall Street Journal reports.
